On Sunday, New York Times published a letter from Nabeel
Rajab, who is a human activist from Bahrain. In that letter, Nabeel Rajab
disclosed the issues occurring in Bahrain about human rights. He wrote that he
has been imprisoned since the beginning of the summer, and he has experienced jail
for many times since he started to fight for human rights in 2002. Furthermore,
he stated that Bahrain has approximately 4.000 political prisoners as the
action against people who dare to propose democracy.
Both the government of Bahrain and the US State Department
immediately responded to the letter written by Nabeel Rajab with different reactions.
Bahraini court accused him of having defamed the government through a foreign
media. Nevertheless, the US State Department has convinced the government of
Bahrain to discharge Nabeel Rajab. This issue as well has encouraged
anti-government movement in Bahrain. A lot of protesters were at the streets
and asked the government for democracy and an end of discrimination.
All countries must have different systems and
regulations, but they are supposed to create and protect their people’s rights
instead of restrict human rights of their citizens. The fact that the
government of Bahrain still limits their citizens’ has pointed out to the world
that Bahrain is still holding onto a primitive principle. It is still stuck on
the idea that people who have power will win and control over the ones with no
power.
